Milton R. Bullock /“The Golden Platter” 
                   
 
       Have you by chance ever heard of “The Platters”?  This group emerged as stars in the mid to late 1950’s, selling more records, playing more venues, appearing in more films, and romancing more Americans than any other group of their time.  Performing simple, romantic melodies, with satin smooth voices have always been their Universal trademark.  “The Platters” were a phenomenon--the first black Doo-wop group to ever have a number one hit ‘pop’ record as well as the first to cross racial barriers on the concert circuit. Mainly by fate, for the white audiences that first heard them ‘thought’ they were a white group, embracing their ’classic’ style.  This ‘blessed misconception’ would fortunately; ‘ open otherwise-closed doors’ , and the rest is International-Universal American World Musical-History at its very best!
 
 

       Reflecting back to 1955, the Platters dominated the ‘Top 40’s” with national and International hit-rating charts.  Quite a feat for the industry during these competitive roller-coaster economic times when there were artists releasing some 6,500 singles annually (averaging two different songs were the norm.)  While the Platters were averaging 5 sides yearly on the major pop/classic charts.  And they weren’t just confined to the 50’s.  Their popularity ranged from Japan to Australia, from South America to Mexico and from England to the very boundaries of the Iron Curtain to all of eastern Europe for some 30+ years.  All of the success enjoyed by the Platters were generated by and under the smart directions of manager, composer song-writer/arranger; (the late Samuel Buck Ram).  
 
      A North Carolina (Edgecombe native) Milton Bullock would be a vital part of the 1960’s second generation of that group. Bullock has entertained audiences most of his life starting locally in the Macedonia Baptist Church choir.  Then onto shining shoes on the streets of Tarboro as a youngster.  He would be introduced to “The Platters” in  1957 and would be offered the rare and golden opportunity ‘to join’ by the group’s founder; “Herb Reed” (bass singer) of the group. Later as a replacement of David Lynch, from 1965 until 1970 he performed as 1st tenor.  Their music is known by billions, with worldwide hits such as; “Only You”-“The Great Pretender”-“Smoke Gets In Your Eyes”-”My Prayer” [Mercury Records].  Then on into the 60’s Beach Music era with such smash hits on Musicor Records as; “With This Ring”-“Washed A-shore”-“Think Before You Walk Away Girl”-“So Many Tears”-“Sweet, Sweet Lovin” and “I Love You 1000 Times” to name a few of their multi-million sellers.
 
      After “The Platters” disbanded, Milton continued his work in the music and film industry.  You may have seen him in such box office smash hits as; “Roller Coaster”- “Home Alone II/Lost In New York City”-“FOLKS”-“Straight Talk”-“Gladiator”-“Prelude To A Kiss”-“Angel Street” and “Rudy” among others.  Presently his classic ‘solo’ tribute performances as; “The Golden Platter” continues to wow audi-ences-young and old--because of his stage presence and his sensational voice. In ad-dition, he produces his international famous, musical tribute showcase; “Back Down Memory Lane with Legends of Yesterday-The PLATTERS / MOTOWN”.    
 
     Contrary to popular & secular beliefs, God equipped his earthly subjects with all different kinds of talents and gifts.  And yes indeed, Milton Bullock was on that special list.   For it was during his early days as a young lad in the Macedonia Baptist Sunday School group that he, along with some of his childhood cronies would create under the directions of (Sunday School Teacher) Mrs. Dezora Ward, a youth group known as “Sunday School Sunshine Band.”  The purpose of this group
of ‘singers of praise’ was to visit the sick and shut-ins and share the current Sunday School lesson, sing praises and present them with flowers.  It would be this early informal training and spiritual development that would aid him and his peers to be the men of today! 

      Although most people are familiar with Milton’s legendary entertainment cre-dentials; he’s most proud of his legacy with at-risk youth, Universal. As founder of “Do It For The Children Initiatives, Inc.”; he’s committed to the welfare of America’s and the World’s at-risk youth.  He uses his celebrity status to motivate young people as well as to bring other celebrities into the act of giving troubled kids the aspiration to succeed.  As well as the ideal fundraiser for local and major international causes providing financial emergency needs to continue or embellish their operations. In addition to his God given talent to sing, he has composed a special song to financially-aid and support that cause; so appropriately themed and titled as; “DoIt For The Kids Today.”
 

       He also spends quite a bit of time making life better for the elderly by appearing in nursing homes, retirement communities across North America, as well as hospital settings. Which always puts a ‘smile’ on the faces of those who related and still appre-ciates when music was music, and life was young and romance was ‘hot’ and alive! FYI. There are various and different types of music and sounds that have shown to have profound effects on healing.  Such therapy has been used in hospitals, schools, corporate offices, and mental institutions for reducing STRESS, lowering blood pressure, alleviating pain, improving movement and balance while promoting endurance and strength.  All of these miraculous benefits derives from the chemical ‘ENDORPHIN’-which is created by the soothing music within the brain.  And it is very rewarding to Milton/ “The Golden Platter” to know that his style and music brings such comfort to those ailing and who are in the sunset of their autumn years.
 
       As fate would have it, here in the year of our Lord (9/9/2010) would bring about another historical phenomenon in the life of Milton Bullock.  For on September 9th, 2010 in his legendary, historical home town of Princeville, NC they would come together and charter their very first chapter of the Lions Club International.  The Lions Club International is the largest civic organization in the world, servicing the essential needs of those who qualify, with the necessary essentials to live a better and more productive life.  The chartered members of Princeville Community Lions Club of District 31-J received their Official Lions Club International Charter on November 18th, 2010.  Such a blessing will provide the residents of Princeville the rare and golden opportunity to ‘reciprocate’ in many wonderful, benevolent ways.   
 
       In addition to the benevolent service of giving back as a sincere gesture of appre-ciation of their miraculous recovery a decade ago. The grateful residents recovery from the devastating tragedy of Hurricane Floyd of 1999 looks forward to helping the surrounding counties.  They also will proudly support those effected nation-wide and globally in their catastrophic predicaments, through the auspices and civic services of their Lions Club.  As a professional entertainer with Universal appeal-he wants to be able to utilize his celebrity status in helping at-risk Children-Universally.


Do It For The Children’s Early-Vision Screening Initiatives:
 
     His most recent civic project is to procure the latest technology in Pediatrics - a digital visual device-camera that detects visual issues within infants as young as 6 months old through 8 years old.  This project is undertaken by his youth Foundation; “Do It For The Children’s Vision Screening Initiatives & Programs, Inc.” Bullock will attempt to raise the funds through private and public donations generated by the sales of his 3 Volume Cd’s to help other non-for profit youth organizations to acquire the miraculous knowledge of this breaking vision screening technology.   In addition, the much anticipated revenue generated by the sale of his original song; “DO IT FOR THE KIDS TODAY” shall be the Universal financial source in manifesting this dream into a reality.  Reaching Third World Countries is his foundation’s primary objective, baring corruption, fraud and politics; this technology is just the beginning.  “ Merely  feeding Children crumbs isn’t enough--the miracle of education with inte llectual technology, st imulating the mind will be the essential-key to their eradicati ng plaguing poverty and ignorance within their villages.  This is the only way for them to become self sustaining and agriculturally independent! ” says, Milton Bullock.

       Milton was recently inducted into the “Twin County Hall of Fame” in 2006. He was nominated by General Hugh (Retired) Shelton/Chairman Joint Chief of Staff under President Bill Clinton-which was indeed a most honorable gesture. While he still maintains that ‘magical touch’ to transport audiences from all ages into a magical time when life was simple and romance was alive-(of which he takes much humble pride in.) While residing in the Heartland, USA Milton attended Stratton College in Milwaukee, WI procuring an Associates Degree in Business Management.               Recently last year 2012 Milton was presented with the prestigious honor of being awarded the; “Key To The City of El Paso, TX”, and having February 25th Proclaimed as; “Lion Milton R. Bullock’s Day” annually! RE: “The Artist Formerly Known As PRINCE” Milton’s Experience of Recording “Do It For The Kids Today!”
 
With the world’s most recent lost to The International Music Scene of ‘Prince’ also known as; Prince Rogers Nelson.  Who was a philanthropist a to Milton’s hometown, Princeville, North Carolina, when Hurricane Floyd in 1999 devastated his hometown with a record breaking 500 year flood waters.  Helping the community recover and rebuild from the havoc created by the flood his $37,000 donation was priceless in the recovery.  Nevertheless [how Milton would meet Prince] prior to 1999 while residing in Milwaukee, WI Milton was seeking a Degree in Business Management @ Stratton University.  When one summer night, returning from an Italian Festival ‘Bastille Days’ he accidentally kicked a very invaluable piece of jewelry that turned out to be the providential pathway that would (un-beknowingly) bring him together with the artist known as Prince!
 
The precious item turned out to be a symbolic double headstone ring of the Scottish Wright Masonic mounted with a 2.5 karat diamond (Old European Cut) worth over $14,000 dollars!  Realizing its worth and symbolism,  Milton would venture the path of attempting to returning the priceless gem to its rightful owner.  Through the broad-media broadcasts, in search; it was viewed by a former school teacher, name Ms. Ida Jones, who would incidentally meet Milton in the local US Post Office a few weeks after the broadcast.  Ms. Jones would compliment him on his honesty and inquire about a children’s song he’d mentioned during the news cast interview.  He was amazed to find out that she revealed that she had a nephew (Jeff Morris) that worked in Prince’s Paisley Park Affiliate Studios in Minneapolis.  And that she would like to invest in the song, if I would consider recording it with her nephew?  At first Milton was a little apprehensive/cautious in mind.  Due the fact that he recalled that Prince had revealed a side of himself that wasn’t conducive nor apropos to being connected with Milton’s children’s song-‘Do It For the Kids Today!’
 
Nevertheless, after some praying; he decided to give it a shot.  So he travels out to ‘Twin Cities’--Minnesota/St. Paul and spends 5 days in some of the coldest weather he’d ever experienced.  He and some of the of the Minnesota Boys & Girls Club youth were more than happy to participate in the filming of the audio visuals.  It was so cold that the hydraulic fluids that controlled the panning of the camera froze up!  

 
 
But nevertheless the session was a success.  So with the recent passing of this great humanitarian, gifted iconic super star it brings back a few sad memories, and the awesome amazing thing about it all.  After his death, Milton finds out that his former wife, Manuela Testolini -CEO & Founder of ‘In A Perfect World Fdn.’ was creating after school programs around the world in his honor for underserved and neglected children.  This was one of the two most greatest things other than singing that Milton & Prince shared together relating to children.  This, Milton will always treasure and be reminded of, when reflecting on what “Prince & Princeville had in common!”
